A disappointing youth career and a
talented mare spurred Kristen Glover
to earn the Sooner Trailer All-Around
Amateur title.
“I started showing when I was 5 years
old, and my first year to go to the
Youth World was when I was 12. My
ultimate goal was just to win a world
championship, and I didn’t get that
done my whole youth career,” Kristen
said.
But in Kristen’s first year as an amateur,
she bought Vital Signs Are Good,
then a 3-year-old western pleasure mare
who carried Kristen to her first world
championship.
That ambition achieved, Kristen
wanted to win the Sooner Trailer award.
On November 9, she met her newest
goal.
“You’re going to get knocked down a
lot, but just get up and keep going,”
Kristen said, getting teary as she talked
about what she has learned from showing
horses.
“I got knocked down constantly
going for the Youth World, and you
just keep trying. God has blessed me
with her. She’s just done a lot for me.”
The Sooner Trailer All-Around Amateur
award goes to the amateur horse
and exhibitor who earn the most points
during the World Show. Exhibitors had
to show one horse in a minimum of
three events to be eligible. Points were
awarded for placing in the top 10 in the
classes.
Kristen said she tried to concentrate
on each class as it came up and not
think about her ultimate goal. Kristen
rode “Lucy” to championship finishes
in western pleasure and western riding,
along with third-place finishes in performance
halter mares and horsemanship
and a fifth-place finish in showmanship.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do
(next),” Kristen said.
“I’ve really accomplished all I wanted
to accomplish. It’s just incredible. I
probably couldn’t do it on any other
horse. She’s just really cool.”
Lucy has earned more than $67,000
in National Snaffle Bit Association
competition.
In addition to the wins at the 2007
Bank of America Amateur Week, Lucy
has two world championships in western
riding and two in western pleasure
as well as a reserve world championship
in western riding and multiple highpoint
titles.
Kristen, who works in her family’s
car dealership, has applied for medical
school.
She plans to continue showing and
enjoying her horses in her spare time,
including showing one of Lucy’s babies
in the 2-year-old western pleasure during
open week.
“I’m going to enjoy having her and
appreciate her, because she is one of a
kind. There will never be another one
like her.”
